Support
Travel Timeline puts your trip on one calm line and fills in the steps around each plan: the ride to the airport, check-in, the gate, the taxi to your hotel.

Getting started
- Do I need an account? No. There’s nothing to sign up for: Travel Timeline uses the Apple Account you’re signed in with. To look around first, tap Try the Example Trip.
- Where do I find Costs, sharing and Trail mode? On iPhone and iPad, open a journey and tap its title.
- Where are Settings? On iPhone and iPad, open Journeys and tap the gear: your name and photo, light or dark, the app icon and formats. On a Mac, choose Travel Timeline › Settings….
iCloud
- Where are my journeys? In your own iCloud, so they’re on every iPhone, iPad and Mac signed in to the same Apple Account. See the privacy page.
- Can I use it without iCloud? Yes. Journeys stay on your device and move into iCloud when you sign in. Sharing needs iCloud.
- It says my iCloud storage is full. Journeys live in your iCloud, so they need a little free space. Free some up in Settings › your name › iCloud.
- Changes don’t appear on my other device. Check that both are online and signed in to iCloud, and that Timeline may use iCloud in Settings › your name › iCloud.
Sharing
- How do I plan together? Tap the journey’s title, then People & Sharing… and Invite Someone…. Add their Apple Account email, or skip it so anyone with the link can join, then send the card and link any way you like. On a Mac, choose File › Share…, then Share… in the journey menu.
- Can I share with a QR code? Yes. Tap the journey’s title, then QR Code to Join… (on a Mac: File › QR Code to Join…). The other person scans it with their iPhone’s camera, or taps the QR code button in Journeys. Anyone with the code or the link can join and edit (or only view, if you made the link view-only in Manage Sharing), so share it only with your travel mates.
- Can I invite someone standing next to me? Yes, with Invite Nearby. On their iPhone, they open Journeys › Join Nearby. On yours, tap the journey’s title, then People & Sharing… › Invite Nearby (on a Mac: File › Invite Nearby…), and tap Invite next to their name. They tap Join. Keep Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth on; joining needs iCloud.
- The invitation link doesn’t open the app. The person you invited needs Travel Timeline installed and to be signed in to iCloud. Then tapping the link opens the journey. On a Mac, the link opens a page in Safari: click Open in Travel Timeline.
- How do I remove someone, or stop sharing? If it’s your journey, tap People, then Manage Sharing… (on a Mac: File › Manage Sharing…). To leave a journey someone shared with you, tap People, then Leave Journey… (on a Mac: File › Leave Journey…). Leaving takes your name and photo out of it.
Trail mode
- What is Trail mode? On a hike or anywhere without a mobile network, you can send messages and short voice messages to your travel mates, ask where everyone is and share where you are. Phones reach each other over Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth, up to about 50 to 100 m, and pass messages on to whoever they meet. Nothing goes through a server.
- How do I turn it on? It works on iPhone and iPad, for a journey shared with your travel mates. Tap the journey’s title, then Trail Mode…, and turn it on. Everyone needs to open the journey once while online first, so their phone gets the journey’s trail key.
- It doesn’t find anyone. Keep Timeline open, with Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth on, on every phone. Trail mode turns itself off after four hours, or when the trip ends.
- Who sees where I am? Only your travel mates on that journey, and only when you share it: with Share Where I Am, or Share Once or Share Live when someone asks. Messages and positions stay on the phones, and are deleted a day after the trip or sooner.
- Can I rely on it in an emergency? No. Trail mode needs other phones nearby and isn’t made for emergencies. In an emergency, call the local emergency number.
Adding bookings
- How do I add a booking from an email or PDF? Tap +, then Add from File or Photo…, or copy the confirmation and tap Paste. You can also share an email, PDF, screenshot or Wallet pass to Timeline from Mail, Photos, Files or Safari, or scan a printout with the camera. On a Mac, drop it on the timeline or choose File › Add from Email or File….
- What can it read? Flights, trains, stays, car rentals, restaurants and tours from confirmation emails, PDFs, screenshots, photos, Wallet passes and calendar files. You check what it found before anything is added.
- Do I need Apple Intelligence? No. Where Apple Intelligence is on, it helps read the text. Without it, Travel Timeline’s own reader does the job. Either way, the booking is read on your device and its text isn’t kept.
- Can it add the price to Costs? Yes. When a booking has a price, turn on Add to Costs before you add it. It counts as paid by you and shared by everyone on the journey; change who paid in Costs.
- Something was read wrong. Fix it in the review before you add it, or open the plan afterwards. If a booking keeps failing, email us; please remove anything personal you don’t want to send.
Maps
- Can I use the map offline? Yes, on iPhone and iPad. Open the map, tap the layers button, then Save Map for Offline. With no connection, the map shows the saved map with the journey’s pins. Plans you add later still get their pins; for a new city, tap Update Offline Map.
- What are gems? Places worth a visit, like a bakery or a market, with a word on why. Everyone on the journey sees them on the map, with how far they are from the stay, and can like them or get directions.
Widgets, Siri and Apple Watch
- Which widgets are there? Up Next, with your next plan and when to leave, on the Home Screen and the Lock Screen, and Today, with the day’s plans.
- What does the Live Activity show? On a travel day, the step you’re on, from the taxi to the gate, with a countdown to the next, on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island. It starts when you open the app close to leaving for a flight or train, or with Start Travel Day on its card.
- What can I ask Siri? “What’s next in Timeline?” and “When do we leave in Timeline?”. Siri can also open a journey by its name, and Spotlight finds your upcoming plans by name, flight number or booking code.
- Is there an Apple Watch app? Yes. It shows today’s plans and the next step, read from your iCloud, and you can add the next step to your watch face.
